Our Story

The Odenong Powwow started in 2020, on the virtual platform Social Distance Powwow. This was a way to showcase the talents of Native people in the Northeast and to connect with our communities during lockdown.

Since 2021, the Odenong Powwow has been going strong as an in person, two day event in Amherst, MA. The only event of its kind in the area- offering the chance for local Native people to be in community, demonstrate our skills, and offer an educational space for folks to learn a little about the Indigenous folks here.
While we currently use community spaces for the event, we aspire to having physical powwow grounds in the area. For more information, please visit our About and Support the Powwow pages.
What to Expect
Dancing
Men's Eastern War, Women's Jingle Dress, and maybe even a Round Dance! Native people travel from all over to dance at a powwow- it's an opportunity to keep our cultures thriving, see familiar faces, and get to know folks too!

Native Made Art
Native vendors from across the Northeast come to sell jewelry, crafts, instruments, clothing, seeds, art, and many other lovingly made items at our powwow. Come check them out and support Native made- not "inspired by"- goods!
Music
Powwow music is something you have to experience for yourself. We've been blessed to have some of the top drum groups from New England & beyond at the Odenong Powwow over the years- come hear some good tunes and learn what makes powwow music so special!
